Are you making a truck-load of hot dogs for the 4th? Need an excellent
recipe way to cook hot dog wieners for a crowd, keeping them warm & juicy & delicious for a long time? This crockpot method is for you.
HERE’S HOW to do it: You can load a 6 qt. cooker with 30 – 40 – 60 hot dog wieners, standing upright (shown at left) or lay them flat in smaller cookers. Just throw them in. No water or anything needed. Cook on low setting for 3-4 hours or high for 1-2 hours. They will brown as they touch the sides of the crockpot, so move them around a little to get uniform browning. *TIP — add buns to the same pot about 20 minutes before serving, to warm them up.
This technique makes the BEST hot dog you’ve ever had! Forget about watered down, boiled wieners… forget overcooked grill wieners that get cold before you can serve them. These crockpot hotdogs stay hot, crisp, and delish as long as you need.
The best topping for hotdogs is CHILI (Coney Island style) -
see Hotdog Chili recipe below …
This is a slightly revised version of the infamous Coney Island hot dog sauce. Best around anywhere.
- Do NOT brown beef before using!!
- Combine all except wieners and cook until thick, about 3 hours on HIGH or 5-6 hours on LOW.
- Grind the wieners (or chop in food processor); stir in and cook 15 minutes longer.
